What is IndexNow?
IndexNow is an open protocol that lets a site tell search engines instantly when a URL is new or changed, so it can be crawled sooner.
IndexNow lets a website notify participating search engines the moment a page is published, updated or deleted, instead of waiting for them to notice. You send the URL, along with a key that proves you control the site.
Who supports it
Bing, Yandex and other search engines participate. At the time of writing, Google doesn't use IndexNow, so for Google you still rely on Search Console, your sitemap and good internal links.
How it works
- You generate a key and host it as a text file on your site.
- When a URL changes, you send a request naming the URL and the key.
- Participating search engines share the notice with each other.
In Seovyn
Seovyn does this for you: it hosts the key where it can (for GitHub and WordPress sites), confirms the file is reachable, and pings as pages go live. See Search engine indexing.
