# Write a custom article

> Ask for a specific article now instead of waiting for discovery: pick the topic, the kind of page and up to four competitor pages to beat.

Most articles start on their own, from your sources and keyword targets. When you know exactly what you want, ask for it: Seovyn writes it now, against the competitor pages you name.

:::steps
### Open the form

Choose **New article** on **Overview**, or press <kbd>N</kbd> anywhere in the dashboard.

### Say what it's about

Write the topic the way someone would search for it, for example `pricing comparison for transactional email APIs`.

### Pick the kind of page

| Kind | For |
|---|---|
| **Comparison** | X vs Y, alternatives |
| **Blog post** | Guides and how-tos |
| **Landing page** | Features and use cases |

### Name the competitors to beat

Add up to four addresses. Each can be a specific article or just a competitor's site: for a whole site, Seovyn finds its page that best matches your topic. **Quick-fill from your sources** adds the competitor sites you already watch.

Seovyn reads each page, so the writer works from what the competition actually says rather than from a URL. If none of the pages can be read, you're told to check they're reachable.

### Write it

Choose **Write article**. It takes about a minute; you can close the form, and the draft lands in your review queue like any other.

## How a custom article differs

- **It's never second-guessed.** You asked for the topic by name, so it skips the topic-fit check that ideas from sources and suggested keywords go through. See [How topics are chosen](/docs/choosing-topics).
- **It goes through the same quality checks** as every other draft: the SEO checks, the Editor, and one revision if it needs it. See [Quality score](/docs/quality-score).
- **You still approve it.** It waits in your review queue; on autopilot, it's judged like any other draft.
- **It uses one article from your monthly allowance.** At the limit, the form says so. See [Plans and usage](/docs/plans-and-usage).

> [!TIP]
> Want an article for a search on a regular basis rather than once? Add it as a [keyword target](/docs/keyword-targets) instead, and Seovyn plans it with everything else, checks the demand and keeps it from competing with your other pages.
